Bungalow Extensions Remuera
This large many gabled bungalow along a busy Remuera traffic route had undergone several earlier extensions until the current owners commissioned Ron Seeto to design improvements.
This project is an exercise in staging to suit changing family needs over a 10 year period - reconfiguring basic architectural elements covering efficient and functional circulation, improved proportions to existing rooms, making new liveable spaces, rationalizing external forms and re-using existing features and materials for a seamless marriage of new and old.
The alterations and additions over 3 separate projects comprised firstly,
• a large new island Kitchen flanked by a working Scullery
• a new circulation route from the main entry vestibule through and between primary living rooms - Sitting, Dining, Family
• popping the roof of existing double garaging for an attic rumpus room

• inserting bespoke family day lockers and built in cabinetry, followed by
• a new double storey addition housing a single garage for a sports car over a basement mancave two steps down from an existing billiard room looking and opening onto the lower garden, and latterly
• the insertion of a covered Outdoor Room served from the Kitchen through wooden lead light by-pass sashes and built over an extended existing deck mediating between the Kitchen and Family Rooms stepping down to the swimming pool area.
Traditional dark clinkered brick, white painted bevel back weatherboarding, terracotta clay tile roofing and painted gridded wooden windows and doors are continued in the new work and sit comfortably with modern frameless glass balustrading behind wide painted sliding timber shutters.
